Gallipoli
From the Greek 'Beautiful City' is a pearl of the Ionian waters. An ancient sailors' city, with its oriental charm, this small town is characterized by two well-defined areas: the "cittą vecchia/old city" and the "borgo nuovo/new village".
The many old churches in the striking old town centre deserve visiting, the Cattedrale di S. Agata (Cathedral of St. Agatha) in Lecce Baroque style, the Castello Aragonese-Angioino (Aragonese-Angevin Castle), and the oldest Greek-Roman fountain of Italy (3rd century b.C.).
The new village appears to be completely the opposite of the old city, with various shops and tourist facilities to gather the many tourists.
